Sir Thomas Lundsford Traweek II is also known as just Sir Thomas Lundsford II. Also known as Colonel Thomas Lundsford.
THREE MUSKETEERS
All three of these cavalieric Lunsford brothers, were loyal to the King, protectors of the King and military leaders for the King. The King being Charles I. For this reason, some believe that these three were the true-life inspiration for Alexandre Dumas' classic novel, THE THREE MUSKETEERS. Sir Thomas' two brothers, at one time or another, if not continuously, both served in Sir Thomas' regiment and held rank therein. Further -- there was even a 4th brother, William, just like in the novel. If Mr. Dumas had a true-life inspiration for the Musketeer's, the Lunsford brothers certainly fit the bill!

I often wonder how Sir Thomas would feel, were he alive today, if he knew his reputation was being used to promote a candy bar? Or that his legacy has lived on and is the topic of much debate, lore and misinformation? In any case, I heard a "Rest of the Story" (Paul Harvey) clip on the radio that discussed the insipration for the Three Musketeers -- and it was not the Lunsford Brothers.
Daniel Cloud is my husband's 4th great grand uncle. A friend of mine visited The Alamo over the weekend and was kind enough to bring back a pamphlet for me that has a quote of Daniel Cloud.

"If we succeed, the Country is ours. It is immense in extent, and fertile in its soil and will amply reward all our toil. If we fail, death in the cause of liberty and humanity is not cause for shuddering. Our rifles are by our side, and choice guns they are, we know what awaits us, and are prepared to meet it."
Veronica Houle was my Aunt. I was told by my mother that she died at 19. Drug overdose. I did not know she was married. I need to further investigate this. Veronica Houle married to Martin Swara.

**Update** This is her. I was able to find her death now under Veronica Swara. Died January 1976 in San Diego. :( I was 10 years old. I never knew her. The facts about her being 19 is wrong. She was 25. Either my memory or the information given was incorrect. Will have to order death cert.

How sad, they divrced in 1971
According to my mother, and passed down from her mother, Patricia, Nell was married to Al Capone bookie, Maximillian Von Wille and Max was murdered by Capone's hit men. Nell and Max divorced after Nell gave birth to Patricia, my grandmother. Nell remarried James Wilson and raised my grandmother.

A few years ago I got a couple of emails from a man who was researching James Wilson. I am going to copy/paste them here to go back on. Mr. Rotenstein, the man who emailed me didn't believe my story of Nell being married to Max and then James Wilson. He doesn't think since she "integrated so well into upper middle class society" that such a scandalous past could exist. He kept insisting the James Wilson is my grandmother Patricia's father. I can assure you Mr. Rotenstein, he isn't. Nelle Foley was married to Max Von Wille and he is Patricia's father. My Great Grandfather.
I am a Washington-area historian working on a history of 1930s suburban developers and I think the person you posted a query about, Nell M. Wilson (1906-1966) was the wife of developer James Wilson. If so, I am looking for biographical information on James and Nell. I have very little personal information about the Wilsons and am giving a paper on their work at an academic conference in November. Please do not hesitate to write for additional information.
Hi and thank you for your email. I don't have much info on the Wilsons. Nell is my great grandmother and her previous husband, Max Wille is my great grandfather. She had a daughter, Patricia with Max that James raised (Patricia is my grandmother). Now that you have told me about James, I have a little more to go off for research. Thank you. I wish I could find more on Nell, was told she was a writer of some sort.
By the way, we are now in the Roanoke area.
BTW, it was Nelle's mother, Margaret Foley, who wrote for a couple of Chicago papers. She apparently followed her daughter to Miami and then Maryland. Nelle I think was the marketing genius behind James's real estate developments. One of her best may have been conceiving the DC World's Fair home in 1939, which is the focus of my research. For a while in the late 30s they lived 2 blocks from where we live.
Hi Tanya,

Based on the information I got last week I was able to construct a partial lineage for Margaret Foley-Nelle Foley Wilson (pasted below). I'm not sure where you got the Wille information but Nelle M. Foley Wilson -- she signed her name Nelle in legal documents -- so far has no legal connection to a Wille. I was able to locate a Chicago Tribune newspaper article that reported Max Wille Sr.'s wife, Theresa, filed for divorce because he threw their live cat into the stove (in 1925). Nelle Wilson integrated well into upper-middle-class society in Silver Spring and was frequently in the newspaper -- a scandalous divorce and remarriage does not appear likely. Also, the 1930 census shows that the marriage to James Wilson occurred in c. 1927, just before Patricia's birth. Unless there is some documentation to show that Nelle was married briefly to two people in the late 1920s, the divorce information you reported in your posts is suspicious.
Hi David, thank you for that info. I don't have much time, running the boys to football practice but wanted to comment on this. The info I received was from my mother, Valerie Dembrosky Houle. She told me that her mother, Patricia's father, Maximillian Von Wille was a bookie for Al Capone and when Patricia was born, he threw Nell out the window because Patricia was a girl. Although that sounds strangley like the cat story you just told me. I'll be in touch tomorrow! T
************************************************************************************
Thanks for the additional details. I'm continuing to work on my paper this week. I just entered this into my database -- it's a 1939 photo of Nelle M. Wilson (attached).

If you look at the 1930 census (Miami), it indicates that the marriage
between Nelle and James occurred in c. 1927, a few months before Patricia
was born. Again, falling back on the legal documents, absent something that
confirms that Nelle was married to two men simultaneously, I find it a
little difficult to rely on family narratives as the definitive answer. Do
you have a copy of Nelle's death certificate -- not something transcribed by
a genealogist, but the actual 1966 document? The same is true for the Wille
divorce papers. Another direction to go is to get the Chicago divorce
documents showing the dissolution of Theresa and Max Wille's marriage (c.
1925). I went to the Montgomery Co., MD, clerk's office and register of
wills. There was no will nor any estate left by Margaret Foley in 1943 so
that's a dead end.

The Willes went to Illinois (in 1887 and lived in Chicago after 1888) via
New Jersey. Surviving newspaper accounts suggest that the family was
involved in real estate and as house painters/decorators. The Max Wille
(Sr.) who was born in Germany was born in 1856; his son, Max Jr., was born
in Illinois in 1905 -- he would have been the Wille to marry someone of
Nelle's age in the 1920s.

I think you wrote in one of your posts that Patricia is still alive and
living in California. Do you have contact information for her that you can
forward?
Hi Tanya,

I'm at the Library of Congress today and just wanted to give you some additional information I found this morning. Margaret Foley, Nelle's mother, who died in 1943 in Silver Spring was married to Thomas Phelan Foley, son of Tom and Mary Foley. He was died May 9, 1923, in Chicago. According to his obit, his daughter Nelle was still unmarried. He also had one niece living in Jersey City, NJ (Mrs. C.B. Cordner).

Were you able to reconcile any of the discrepancies we swapped notes about last weekend?

David

Yes, if you can email scans that would be great. In two weeks I'm going up to New York to use the1939 World's Fair records and they have some correspondence and other materials from James and Nelle Wilson.
Hi and thank you for that! No, actually I have been swamped all week and haven't had a chance to do a thing BUT I did locate Max's death cert and I did have one for Nelle, I had forgotten that I ordered it. I had started on this couple about a year or so ago but my research was stopped as we were preparing to move to Virginia and I just haven't been able to dive back in. Unfortunately, when you take a break from it like that, you forget what you were researching. If you would like, I can scan a copy of Max's death cert and Nelles, maybe something will pop up for you? Thanks for the info on Thomas!
Nelle Marie Foley Wille Wilson - My Great Grandmother
I just realized Nelle's middle name is Marie. I was born Michelle Marie Houle (Dembrosky) (adopted and my name was then changed to Tanya Annette Greer) anyways, I will have to ask my mother if my middle name is after Nelle's. I know that she named me Michelle because she was a teenager while pregnant with me and The Beatles Michelle, My Belle was a song she used to sing to me while pregnant :)
Found primarily in France, New France (French-Canada, Louisiana, etc.), and Scotland, dit names are essentially an alias tacked on to a family name or surname. Dit in French is a form of the word dire, which means "to say," and in the case of dit names is translated loosely as "that is to say," or "called." Therefore, the first name is the family's original surname, passed down to them by an ancestor, while the "dit" name is the name the person/family is actually called or known as. Dit names are used by families, not specific individuals, and are usually passed down to future generations, either in place of the orginal surname, or in addition to it.

Why a dit name? Dit names were often adopted by families to distinguish them from another branch of the same family. Interestingly, many dit names derived from military service, where early French military rules required a nom de guerre, or nickname, for all regular soldiers. The specific dit name may have been chosen for many of the same reasons as the original surname - as a nickname based on trade or physical characteristics, to identify the ancestral place of origin (Andre Jarret de Beauregard, where Beauregard refers to the ancestral home in the French province of Dauphine), etc.

A dit name can be legally used to replace the family's original surname, so you may find an individual listed with a dit name, or under either the original surname or the dit name. Dit names may also be found reversed with the original surname, or as hyphenated surnames.
When recording a dit name in your family tree software, it is generally standard practice to record it in its most common form - e.g. Hudon dit Beaulieu. A standardized list of dit names with their common variants can be found in Rene Jette's Répertoire des Noms de Famille du Québec" des Origines à 1825 and Msgr Cyprien Tanguay's Dictionnaire genealogique des familles canadiennes (Volume 7). Another extensive source is The dit Name: French Canadian Surnames, Aliases, Adulterations, and Anglicizations by Robert J. Quentin. When the name is not found in one of the above sources, you can use a phone book (Québec City or Montréal) to select the most common form, or just record it in the form most often used by your ancestors.

The DIONNE Quintuplets (1934)
The DIONNE Quints were born in Corbeil, ON in 1934-05-28. The first-known quintuplets to have lived beyond childhood, the DIONNE girls did not have a normal life in that they were exposed to the public during their childhood on a daily basis. Living in a private hospital built for them, they were not allowed much contact with their parents; hence, familial bonds were never experienced and each had emotional and financial difficulties throughout their life. In November 2007, two of the quints, Annette and Cécile, were still living together in Mont-St-Bruno, QC.
Oliva DIONNE & his wife,.Elzire LEGROS, had 6 children before the birth of the Quints: Ernest, Marie-Rose, Thérèse, Daniel, Léo & Pauline, who was born in 1933. After the birth of the Quint, the couple had 3 sons: Oliva, Victor & Claude.
Several books were written about the Quints, including an autobiography at the hands of ANNETTE & CÉCILE. These may easily be found in the Internet.
ANNETTE married Germain ALLARD but they eventually divorced.
CÉCILE married Philippe LANGLOIS and the couple also divorced.
ÉMÉLIE entered a convent where she had a series of seizures. One day, alone in the Infirmary in St-Agathe-des-Mnts, QC, she had a seizure, which caused her to turn over in her bed, face down on the pillow. She thus died from suffocation on 1954-08-06.
MARIE married Florian HOULE (Herman+Rose Alba ROCH) in Montréal, QC on 1958-08-11. The couple divorced. MARIE died in Montréal, QC on 1970-02-24.
YVONNE was a librarian. She died in Longueuil, QC on 2001-06-23.
Raoul (aka Ralph) M. Bessette represents the 8th Generation of the Jean (dit Brisetout) Bessette lineage. He was born August 4, 1900 in Springfield Mass. (As a matter of general interest, this is the same day as the British Queen mother was born. England recently observed her 101st birthday.) He was educated through the 6th grade when he left to join the work force which was not unusual during that era. With the US entry into World War1 he enlisted on his 18th birthday and was posted with the 13th Cavalry at Ft. Clark, Texas.
Following his honorable discharge in 1919 he returned to Mass., served in the National Guard and returned to active duty in 1925 receiving his final discharge in 1928. He met Jeanne Simone Houle around 1930 and they were married November 21, 1932 in Chicopee, Ma.
Simone was born of a large French Canadien family (11 surviving siblings) to Onesime and Eliana (Jutras) on January 7, 1907 at St. Germain, Quebec. The young couple moved into a 2nd floor apartment at 12 Lucretia Avenue, Chicopee (Willimansett), Mass. Here, the writer was born on September 6, 1933 followed 11 months later by his younger brother Richard.
My parents moved to Holyoke 3 or 4 years later and the last child, Francoise was born February 12, 1938. Their residence of 30 years was 83 Center St. in the Flats section of Holyoke. Raoul worked for a number of years as a baker (the trade he had learned in the army) and later he worked at the Worthington Pump Co. as a machinist. He was an avid bowler with the Industrial League in Holyoke and for a period of time held the three game candle pin record. He passed away in Holyoke on February 21, 1976 at age 75. Simone survived him by 21 years, succumbing at the ripe old age of almost 90 on January 9, 1997.
New England = By Eli Chiat Ralph Lentini Having Splendid Season Has Won Ten Races With 12Horse Unit Wintered Charges at His Nemasket Farm FarmLINCOLN LINCOLN DOWNS Lincoln R I May 13 Ralph Twinkletoes Lentini who is as nimble on the dance floor as he is around shedrow definitely is on his way to enjoying one of his banner years as a trainer The hard ¬ working and some times rough talking Lentini is presently con ¬ ditioning 12 racers in his public stable here So far he has seen his charges in the winners circle on 10 occasions which is not a bad accomplishment since they spent the winter on his Nemasket farm in nearby Middleboro Mass and shipped here without any additional preparations It was there that they went through their training cnores during the cold months and it is praise indeed to Ralphs training ability that his handicap star Flying Bird won a 5 furlongs allowance event on the second day of this session sessionAt At the moment Ralph conditions horses for the Red Head Stable of which Flying Bird is the top member and the Victoria Stable Harry Gibby Jr of Brighton Mass owns the Red Head Stable and as you can guess Gibby is endowed with a crop of bright red hair And understandably so the silks his thorough ¬ breds carry in the afternoon are also bright red Defi ¬ nitely the only thing not red in this association is the color of the ink they use Flying Bird and the plater Dr Hab have seen to this Dr Hab a former handi ¬ cap star who is now relegated to the 2000 claiming division has started four times and owns a record of two victories and two seconds Flying ActivityEdward Edward and Armond Houle of Fall River Mass are the coowners of the Victoria Stable and they have seen their Diving Boots Maxs Reward and Hack Saw in the winners circle during this stand These horses too spent the winter at Ralphs farm The farm consists of 46 acres of green lush grass area and since Lentini bought the land in 1955 he has made numerous improvements so that today it is one of the most modern and wellappointed farms in Yankeeland He also has gone hi for breeding on a small scale and he hopes in time to rival some of the other leading breeding establishments in this area areaLentini Lentini who has been training racers for 25 years and remembers Fred Wyses Air Rate as the best horse he ever trained finally decided to pass up winter campaigning and with an eye to future security se ¬ cured Nemasket Farm three years ago and now plans on living the life of a country squire during the winter months As Ralph puts it It keeps getting harder and harder to make ends meet when winter racing Its getting too tough If you can break even then youve had a successful meeting but how many do break even nowadays Now I can sit back during the off months board horses and raise a few of my own and when the tracks open here in the spring Ive got some fresh horses to work with You know they need a rest occasionally and this way they can get it without being too much of a burden on the pocketbook Besides taking care of those that I train myself I have facili ¬ ties to take care of others There is 18 large boxsized stall fully insulated and screened I have a small training track all under cover and I think its the ideal place for freshening up So despite the severity of the past winter the winning efforts of his charges indicate that not too many days were lost to the weatherman weathermanConsiders Considers Air Rate The Fastest Horse HorseNo No conversation with Ralph is complete until he extols the virtues of Air Rate who is now the leading sire at Fred Wyses farm in Texas There was a jace horse boasts Lentini he won races from coast to coast and he was one of the fastest horses I ever saw He could win from a half mile to a mile and onesix ¬ teenth and I think he could have won up to a mile and oneeighth In fact I believe he would have won the Santa Anita Derby in 1946 if he hadnt rapped himself and caught a quarter leaving the gate You know he won the prep race for the Derby the San Vicente when he galloped the mile distance in 137 Off that race he was in top shape for the Derby and despite his mishap leaving the gate he was only beaten seventh lengths by Knockdown Ralph concluded I hope I can raise one just about half as good as Air Rate was ChitChat Trainer Jess Byrd who made his New England debut at this meeting will ship the 15 racers belonging to John Kel Houssels to Washington Park to campaign at the Balmoral session opening there Accompanying the Byrd contingent will be jockey Wayne Chambers and his agent Sous certains aspects, il est difficile pour une personne consultant ce registre de ne pas être attiré par cet acte : sur plus d'un feuillet et demi, on fait notamment mention de 25 personnes dans le texte même et 35 ont signées au bas du texte.
