Sylvia Rouleau: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice
Brattleboro Reformer (VT) - February 12, 2008
Deceased Name: Sylvia Rouleau
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- Sylvia Davidson Rouleau, a long-time resident of Barre, Vt., died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Fla.

She was born in Burlington, Vt., on June 7, 1932. She was the only daughter of Theodore and Madelyn (Suitor) Davidson. She married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Bertrand D. Rouleau Sr. at St. Monica's Catholic Church on Dec. 27, 1952.

Mr. and Mrs. Rouleau made their home in Barre, where Mr. Rouleau, his brothers, and father ran Rouleau Granite Co.

In 1966, they built a custom home on Upper Camp Street where they spent many happy years raising their family and entertaining friends.

She will be remembered for her beautiful sparkly eyes and warm gentle smile. She lived every day of her life with passion! Her gift for gardening amazed everyone, and she could be seen in the early morning and late afternoon tending to her botanical friends with loving care. In return, they bloomed for her all summer long.

She will also be remembered for her gift of decorating her homes. She loved to go antique shopping with her husband, and together they collected many unique treasures, always finding the perfect spot for them in their homes. They especially loved collecting old signs and pottery crocks from around Vermont and Florida.

She would welcome family and friends with open arms, and there would always be a wonderful meal prepared with loving care. No one left hungry, and her secret recipes were highly sought after especially her homemade bread. As grandchildren arrived on the scene she became known as Memé, and that nickname has followed her in later years.

This past July, Mrs. Rouleau was able to realize a lifelong dream, when she and Mr. Rouleau visited Paris. She told many friends how wonderful this trip was for the two of them.

All her family and friends in Vermont and California will miss her. She also formed very close ties with her friends at Jardin Del Mar in Delray Beach, where she and her husband spent the winter months.

She leaves her three loving children, Bertrand D. Rouleau Jr., Robin R. Walsh, and Marc A. Rouleau. In addition, she is survived by daughters-in-law Mary Rouleau and Christine Rouleau, son-in-law Michael Walsh; and, grandchildren Sean, Aaron, Nic, and Liz Rouleau, and Kayleigh and Pember Walsh.

Her gift for gardening amazed everyone, and she could be seen in the early morning and late afternoon tending to her botanical friends with loving care. In turn, they bloomed for her all summer long.

She will be remembered for her gift of decorating her homes. She loved to go antique shopping with Bert, and together they collected many unique treasures, always finding the perfect spot for them in their homes. They especially loved collecting old signs and pottery crocks from around Vermont and Florida.

She would welcome family and friends with open arms and there would always be a wonderful meal prepared with loving care. No one left hungry, and her secret recipes were highly sought after, especially her homemade bread! As grandchildren arrived on the scene she became known as Meme' and that nickname has followed her in later years.

This past July, Sylvia was able to realize a lifelong dream, when she and Bert visited Paris. She told many friends how wonderful this trip was for the two of them.

All her family and friends in Vermont and California will miss her. She also formed very close ties with her friends at Jardin Del Mar in Delray Beach, Fla., where she and Bert spent the winter months. She leaves her three loving children: Bertrand D. Rouleau Jr., Robin Rouleau-Walsh, and Marc A. Rouleau. In addition she is survived by daughters-in-law Mary Rouleau and Christine Rouleau, son-in-law Michael Walsh: and, grandchildren Sean, Aaron, Nic, and Liz Rouleau, and Kayleigh Rouleau-Walsh and Pember Rouleau- Walsh.

"We love you Meme!"

At a later date there will be a celebraton of her life at "The Lake House" in Lake Elmore, Vermont. Her final resting place will be at the Rouleau Family Mausoleum at Hope Cemetery in Barre, Vermont.
