He married CATHERINE PRUDHOMME on January 15, 1679/80 in Montreal, Penetanaguishene, Quebec, Canada, daughter of Louis Prudhomme and Roberte Gadois. Olivier was the first descendant to come to dDquesnel, Quebec in 1676. He later settled as a farmer in Lachine, Quebec.

From "The Second Generation" written by Claudette Parker.
In 1669, by order of the Kind Louis XIV, the male population between the ages of sixteen and sixty were organized into militia units. In each parish a company was formed. In more populated parishes the companies had a captain, a lieutenant, and an ensign. Most of the officers were habitants rather then seigneurs. Captains were appointed by the Governor General serving as his agents, making certain that law and order prevailed throughout the countryside. Men served without pay. However, officers did enjoy an elevated social status. The entire male population was armed and could be mobilized quickly by its habitant captains.
In her pregnancy with Jean Baptist, Catherine, in the absence of Olivier, possibly retained in the high-country and because of the remoteness of Lachine at that time, was transported to Montreal to be in the care of her brother-in-law the surgeon doctor Martinet dit Fomblanche and her sister Marguerite Prud'homme, wife to Martinet.
Jean Baptist Quesnel was born and baptized on the 31st of October 1681 in Montreal. He was the first born of Olivier Quesnel and Catherine Prud'homme, and the first to serve in the militia as a captain and commander at Carillon.

Jean Baptist Quesnel was born and baptized on the 31st of October 1681 in Montreal. He was the first born of Olivier Quesnel and Catherine Prud'homme, and first to serve in the militia as a captain and commander at Carillon. The harrowing experience of the Iroquois massacre at Lachine, credited Jean Baptist with his first battle at the young age of seven years. This incident must have had a lasting impression on the youngster.
On the 20th of January 1705, Jean Baptist married Marie Anne Gourdon, daughter of Jean Baptist Gourdon and Michele Perrin dit Lachasse, in the presence of Anne and Suzanne Gourdon, Antoine and Mary Anne Perrin and Francouis Fortier, Guillaume Deslorimier, captain of the militia and commander of Fort Tolland. Of this marriage two children were born. Mary Madeleine and Michel Antoine.
Marie Anne Gourdon, was buried in Lachine the 22nd of January 1709, at the age of 25 years old.
In a second marriage, Jean Baptist married in Montreal on the 18th day of August 1715, to Jeanne Aubuchon, 24 years old and the daughter of Joseph and Elisabeth Cusson. The marriage contract was passed before the notary Lepailleur on the same day. Jeanne Aubuchon was baptized in Montreal on the 29th of June 1690 and was buried at Lachine, the 21st of May 1779 at the age of 89 years. From this marriage was born nine children.
By the 1696, because of overproduction, the French beaver market was bankrupt. Therefore, Jean Baptist turned the earth for his livelihood and became a successful Gentlemen farmer.
