Archambault married (around 1629) Françoise Tourault, with whom he had many children. All Archambaults (and descendants) now living in North America are his descendants, as no other Archambault ever emigrated from France.[1]
A plate in the back of the Pointe-à-Callière Museum of Montreal commemorates his digging the first water well, near what is now known as Place-d'Armes, on October 11, 1658, upon request by Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve.

In 1647, Jacques rented a farm in Quebec. Between 1651 and 1653 his family seems to have alternated between Montreal and Quebec. The family was in Montreal during the terrible summer of 1651. Jacques barely escaped the massacre. Their son Denis was killed that summer by the cannon which he was getting ready for the third blow against the Iriquois. With his son-in-law Urban Tessier, Jacques Archambault was chosen among those to defend the stronghold known as "l'Enfant Jesus" in Montreal. This small fort was situated at the extremity of Tessier's grant. Its defenders, who were also its propietors, were responsible for its being guarded 24 hours a day.
In 1678, when Jacques was 74 years old, his three sons-in-law and his son Laurant granted a l ife pension to him "a septuagenarian and quite unable to work and to earn his living and clothing, for the natural friendship they bear him, as they always have." He died 10 years later.

Jacques Archambault was born 1604 in Lairdillierre, Charente Maritime, France, and died 15 February 1687/88 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He married Francoise Tourault on 1625 in France, daughter of Francois Toureau and Marthe Lenoir.

AFDQ Pg 6-7 Jacques Archambault Labourer, originally from Lardillierre in Charente Maritime, debarqued at Quebec in 1645 with his wife Francoise Tourault and thier 6 children. He established himself with some land in Montreal some years later, where he died in 1688 at the age of 84. His children transmitted the name of Archambualt to his numerous descendants.

Translated from Drouin Pg 1361YOUR ANCESTOR JACQUES ARCHAMBAULT CAME TO CANADA IN 1646 HE DUG THE FIRST WELL AT MONTREAL, PLACES D' ARMS Jacques Archambault emigrated to Canada, to Quebec, with his family, in 1646. In 1651, he received from the governor of the New France land at Cap-Rouge and another lot from the governor of Montreal . After having lived in Quebec, Jacques Archambault went to Cap-Rouge up until to the autumn of 1653. In 1652, one of his sons, Denis, had been killed by an explosion of a canon that he had attempted to light to fire at a band of marauding Iroquois. Returning to Ville-Marie, in the autumn of 1653, Jacques Archambault, at present day Place d'Armes, in 1658, dug the first well constructed in the island of Montreal. This deed is well documented by several historians. This Montreal pioneer , the only one with this name came to Canada, and has left many descendants. In the "Dictionary of Nobility", by Mr. Jouffroy of Eschavannes (Paris), one sees that a branch of the family Archambault belonged to French nobility. This branch that lived in Orleanais with a coat of arms of : “D'azur has three golden lions ; in it's heart a badge of gold to the vertical band of mouths, loaded with three flanchis of gold. "
